Meet the Committee

Meet your '62 Alumni Committee Members

Just about every alumni Class has a Committee whose function is to help Northeastern graduates stay in touch with the school and with each other. The Class of 1962 is no exception. In fact, our class has an exceptionally active committee whose members meet several times a year to develop this newsletter, update and maintain the content on this web site, develop "mid-term" (other than 5-year reunions) activities and the like.

Here we'll begin introducing the Committee members, including how you might remember them from college, what they're doing now, and why they're on the Committee.

Gene Crepeau - Then and Now

Gene Crepeau, 62BA, Division A

Background (How you might remember me):
President, Husky Hi-Liters; Vice President, Husky Key, Silver Masque, Vice President, Student Council, frequent customer, Lobster Claw and The Gainsbough.
Currently:
Education and Consulting, Inventory Management, Material and Capacity Planning, junk like that.
Why You Joined the Committee:
"I got on the 20th Reunion Committee, and enjoyed the committee meetings and the reunion immensely. Did the same for the 25th, 30th, 35th, and 40th. I guess I'm hooked.
Role on Committee:
Mayor of Huntington Ave, Chairman (or Co-chair, or President) of the Class of '62 Alumni (CLI) committee.

Joe Scarpato - Then and Now

Joe Scarpato, 62LA, Division B

Background (How you might remember me):
"Northeastern News" Feature Editor and "All Hail" columnist; President, Husky Hi-Liters; Newman Club Publicity Chair
Currently:
I am a semi-retired Marketing Communications practitioner, web site content specialist, reviewer of mystery books and all-around good guy.
Why You Joined the Committee:
"When the 40th Reunion promotional material reached me, I recognized the names of a couple of old friends on the Reunion Committee. This decided me to attend my first college reunion. I had such a good time at the various reunion functions, and made such an ass of myself, that I was asked to join the Alumni Committee, giving me one more opportunity to write "All Hail" columns to a captive audience.
Role on Committee:
Co-chair of Communications sub-committee responsible for '62 newsletter and '62 web site.

Bill Durkee - Then and Now

Bill Durkee, 62ChemE, Division A

Background: (How you might remember me)
My years at NU can be summed up one evening when we attended a dance on the second floor of the Rainbow Room (?) on Mass. Ave. and met some "ladies". One said she was from Waltham. At that opening I asked "Who do you know?" She answered "Bill Durkee". In obscurity, I enjoyed endless adventures commuting with t-square and pocket protector from and to Waltham by bus, "T", "shanks mare"and car. "The City is our campus". We also traveled to Unadilla, New York after a West Point hockey game, to New York City on New Years eve. to meet Cooper on Coop., a Harry Bellafonte concert at Carnegie Hall, the Cape, White Mountains, scuba and snorkeling, and on and on!
Currently:
Working from my home office selling imported chemicals to those in need. Serving an endless term as president of the New England Coatings Association.
Why You Joined the Committee:
I have always tried to share some of the good fortune I had in attending NU. After numerous NU sporting, honors, graduation and Reunion events, I volunteered to assist the 40th Committee, and now the CLI. We had the same mix of "work hard - play hard" that always seems to follow my NU experiences!
Role on Committee:
Co-chair of the Communications sub-committee responsible for speaking to and with our Classmates.

Joe deLellis - Then and Now

Joe deLellis Jr., 62BSEE, Division A

Background (How you might remember me):
A Northeastern Love Story - Part I! From peeping through the dividers in the gym at the drama dance rehearsals, I later met one of those divas (who would become my wife) in math class where, thanks to alphabetical seating, Desrosiers and DeLellis sat next to each other. Others might remember Prof. Eugene Blackman's "show and tell" project in Public Speaking. I brought my .22 caliber pistol. Hey, West Newton was a tough neighborhood. Joe DeNucci was a classmate. Joe had a car and a tab at the Claw and the Gainsborough!
Currently:
Retired after an electrifying career.
Why You Joined the Committee:
"Attended the fifth "White Cliffs" Reunion and maintained a loose contact with NU. After reconnecting with some NU friends, decided to volunteer for our Reunion Committee.
Role on Committee:
Co-chair of the Functions sub-committee responsible for choosing activities and sites for Class events.

Geri deLellis - Then and Now

Geraldine "Geri" (Desrosiers) deLellis, 62LA, Division A

Background (How you might remember me):
At Northeastern, I danced the light fantastic in all the musicals. Some of these included Oklahoma, Carousel, Once Upon a Mattress, and Good News. Diana Drucas Metsisto and I were co-chairs of the Modern Dance Workshop and we have wonderful memories of working with Professor Blackman and D.G. Reuter. NU'62 Love Story - part II (For those who attended the 40th Reunion, suffice to say the "Pencil Lady" is still unforgettable. Until then I thought Gropius was an architect, but literally taken "grop-i-us" was apparently a sport attempted by many and defended by all female NU commuters!). Having one EE in the family at NU, and only three female EE's in the Class, I soon switched to math. I endured a few years of commuting by train from Walpole to Back Bay and walking "13 minutes" to NU.
Currently:
Retired in '01 from a career as a computer programmer. Now my husband Joey, (whom I met in Math Class at NU!) and I are retired and enjoy our beach house in Fairhaven and our wonderful grandson, who is now 2 1/2 years old and a true blessing to be treasured every day.
Why You Joined the Committee:
"We reconnected with a friend from Walpole, coach Ed Burns (NU), attended a NU '62 Reunion, then volunteered for the 40th Reunion Committee!"
Role on Committee:
Co-chair of the Functions sub-committee responsible for choosing activities and sites for Class events. Host fabulous Committee meetings.

Diana (Drucas) Metsisto - Then and Now

Diana (Drucas) Metsisto, 62LA, Full Time

Background (How you might remember me):
At Northeastern, I was Chairman of the Omega Sigma Society (with a room in the left front corner of the Ell Building where the few women at Northeastern could gather together, safe from catcalls and wolf whistles for a few moments) and Co-chaired the Modern Dance Workshop with Geri (DesRosier) DeLellis. In addition to putting on and performing our own shows, I performed in many of the musicals put on by the Silver Masque, including Carousel, Once Upon a Mattress, South Pacific, and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Graduated with honors with a BA in Mathematics.
Currently:
Retired from teaching math at Norwell Junior High in 2003. This was my second career after being a computer programmer before my daughter was born. I currently work part time as a math consultant/trainer working in various public schools with teachers. However, my favorite job of all time is taking care of (playing with) my 2-1/2 year old grandson one day a week.
Why You Joined the Committee:
Geri and Joey DeLellis invited me to a reunion committee meeting for the 30th? Reunion and I was hooked. The committee meetings have been a lot of fun over the years. It's been great to watch as Northeastern has grown and matured over the years.
Role on Committee:
Co-chair of the entertainment committee and hostess for the occasional summer meeting. Act as an appreciative audience for jokes and puns.

Barbara Waas - Then and Now

Barbara Waas, '62BA, Full Time

Background (How you might remember me):
20 years at the Old Howard; after one year of days, had to attend NU at night 4 years before work on the late shift. Achieved High Honors in History and Government, with a minor in English. Would be recognized in the Lobster Claw by Freddie, loved Durgin Park, and commuted on the "T". Oh yes, I was well known in the 300 pupil Western Civ. class of Dr. Cotts.
Currently:
Retired teacher from Ashland 7th Grade after 35 years, living in paradise (So. Dennis, MA). Volunteer at the Library. Deny all allegations regarding the Old Howard.
Why You Joined the Committee:
"I finally attended my first NU '62 Reunion at the 40th. I didn't know anyone. It didn't matter! I had a great time and was delighted to volunteer for the Reunion Committee!"
Role on Committee:
Ad Hoc Sub-committee on the history of Boston vaudeville and dance.

Jonathan Noonan - Then and Now

Jonathan Noonan, 62BA, Division A

Background (How you might remember me):
I'll probably be remembered as the skinniest member of the class of 1962. Can't be described that way currently, nor is shy and retiring appropriate today either. I was not a social butterfly at the time…more like a moth enjoying the quiet warmth of a new wool coat!
Currently:
Having gotten bitten by the investment bug in 1958 on co-op, I'm still fully active in the investment business managing portfolios, writing about economics and markets, and enjoying it more than ever. Spent many years with the large firms like Fidelity and Keystone Investments. At this age small is better.
Why You Joined the Committee:
I got involved in the reunion because it seemed like it would be fun since I hadn't attended a reunion since the 10th. It has been! I recommend it to everyone.
Role on Committee:
Assistant to Gene Crepeau and designated punster.

John Toomey - Then and Now

John Toomey, 62Civ.Eng., Division A

Background (How you might remember me):
The Toomey Family had had a long history at the University starting with my 101 year old father, Paul C. 1931,LLB, my brothers Paul V.62BA and William 67BSEduc. and my sister in law, Eileen Folan Toomey 68BA.
I have stayed involved with the University as a member of the Northeastern University Corporation and an employer of NU Coop students for the last 40 years.
Currently:
Registered Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor operating a consulting firm(Toomey-Munson & Associates, Inc.) Civil Engineering Alumni Association most outstanding Alumnus 2005. Married with 4 children and 10 grandchildren.
Why You Joined the Committee:
I enjoyed working with the committee planning our 40th reunion.
Role on Committee:
Contacting as many alumni as possible(especially civil engineering) to convince them to attend the 45th reunion. Also planning the Saturday Dinner Program.

Other committee members:

Bruce Jackson, 62 E, Division B
Ralph Collesian, 62BA, Division A
